How we got here

A salon built around
one unfashionable idea.

Most salons are built to turn chairs over. This one is built around the opposite idea: that the hour you spend here should be unhurried, that the person doing your hair should be the same person who planned it, and that you should hear the truth about what your hair can do before anything is mixed.

That is why you are met at the door rather than at a desk, why the chair is yours for the whole appointment, and why your stylist is working on your hair and nothing else. It is also why the prices on this site are starting points. Length, thickness and what has already been on your hair all change the number, and a price that pretends otherwise is a price that changes at the counter.

Thirty-five years across Europe and Australia is the part that makes the honesty useful. Anybody can tell you what you want to hear. Telling you that the photograph on your phone will not suit your hair, and then showing you the thing that will, takes having seen it go wrong a few thousand times.

    What your hair will and will not do, said out loud before anything begins. If what you are asking for will not suit you, we will say so and tell you what will.

  2. You know the price before we start

    The real number, not the starting one, and not at the counter afterwards. If something changes mid-appointment you hear about it then.

  3. The same hands every visit

    Senior stylists only, and you keep the one you booked. The stylist who plans your colour is the one who applies it, checks it in daylight and books you back in.

  4. You leave knowing how to keep it

    How to wash it, what to avoid, and roughly when to come back. The result should outlast the appointment by months, not days.

Konstantinos has been behind a chair for thirty-five years, across Europe and then Australia, and the salon on Toorak Road carries his name because it works the way he has always worked: one person on your hair, start to finish, and an honest answer before anything begins.

What that buys you is judgement. Thirty-five years is what tells you which of two formulas will hold on your hair in six weeks, and which inspiration photo is going to be a disappointment before you have committed an afternoon to it.

Elaine is the name most of our clients ask for, and the reviews say why better than we can. She takes the time to look at what your hair will actually do, explains what is achievable before she mixes anything, and then sends you home knowing how to keep it.

Colour without bleach where your starting shade allows it, toner matched in daylight, keratin that people rebook without being asked, and extensions blended so the join disappears. She will also happily work with extensions you already wear rather than insist on her own.

    Konstantinos or Elaine, and whoever it is stays with you from the consultation to the blow-dry. If you would like one of them specifically, say so when you call and we will book you with them.

  • How long has the salon been going?

    Konstantinos has been hairdressing for thirty-five years, across Europe and then Australia, and the Toorak room carries that experience into every appointment.

  • What makes you different from the salon on my corner?

    An unhurried hour with a senior stylist whose only job that hour is your hair, and an honest answer about what it can do before anything is mixed. Your colour is blended for you on the day rather than taken off a chart.

  • Do I need a consultation before my first appointment?

    No. Plenty of clients arrive with no prior consult at all. We look at your hair, tell you honestly what is achievable, and plan it together before we start.
