Everything people ask us on the phone, written down. If yours is not here, call and ask. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.

Before you book

What a first visit looks like, and what to bring.

  • Do I need a consultation before a big colour change?

No. Plenty of clients arrive with no prior consult at all. We look at your hair, tell you honestly what is achievable, and plan it together before we start.

  • How do I book an appointment?

Call us on +61 403 251 927. We answer the phone ourselves, talk through what you are after, and find the right time and stylist for you. You can also send an enquiry through the contact page and we will call you back.

  • What should I bring to my first appointment?

Very little. Come with your hair down and dry if you can, and if it has been coloured elsewhere in the last year, tell us what was used. Everything else we work out together in the chair.

  • How far ahead should I book?

A week or two is comfortable for most appointments. Saturdays and late-afternoon slots go first, so call early if that is what you need.

  • Do you take walk-ins?

We work by appointment so that nobody is rushed, but it is always worth calling on the day. Cancellations happen and we would rather fill the chair than leave it empty.

  • How long should I allow?

It depends on what you are having done. A toner refresh is short, a full balayage or a keratin can take most of a morning, and extensions can run longer. We will give you the honest number when you book, so you are not watching the clock.

Colour and balayage

Colour and balayage

Bleach, corrections, greys, and how long colour holds.

  • Can you change my colour without bleach?

Often, yes. Many of our clients go darker, richer or cooler with no bleach at all. It depends on where your hair is starting from, so we will always tell you what is realistic for your hair before we begin.

  • Do you take on colour corrections?

Yes. Box colour, banding and grown-out lightening are all things we work on. Corrections sometimes take more than one visit, and we will tell you that up front rather than promise it in a day.

  • Will you cover my greys?

Yes, and we will talk about how. Full opaque coverage and a softer blend that grows out kindly are two different plans, and which one suits depends on how much grey there is and how often you want to be back in the chair.

  • Do I need a patch test?

For a first colour with us, yes. It is a small thing done ahead of the appointment, and it is there to catch a reaction before it matters.

  • How often will I need a toner refresh?

Every six to ten weeks for most people, depending on how light your colour is, how often you wash, and how much sun the ends see. Balayage grown out on purpose can go considerably longer.

  • Why does my colour look different at home?

Light. Toner is matched and checked in daylight rather than under the basin lamp for exactly this reason, so what you see in our mirror is what you see outside. If something looks off in the first week, call us and come back in.

Hair extensions

iTips, beads, maintenance, and working with what you already wear.

  • Will you work with extensions I already have?

Yes. We are happy to work with your existing extensions rather than insist on our own, and we colour-match, blend and maintain them so everything sits seamlessly. For long-term wearers this is usually the cheaper and kinder option.

  • What kind of extensions do you use?

iTip and bead application. Rows are placed so nothing shows when your hair is up, then cut and blended by hand so the ends move with your own length.

  • How often do extensions need maintenance?

Every eight to ten weeks as a rule. As your own hair grows the rows move down and need lifting back up. We book the next maintenance before you leave, so you are never caught out.

  • Will extensions damage my own hair?

Applied at the right weight for your density and moved up on time, they should not. Trouble almost always comes from rows left in too long, or from hair too heavy for what is holding it. That is why we look at your density before agreeing on a plan.

  • How much do extensions cost?

Extensions are priced after a consultation rather than from a list, because the hair itself is the largest part of the cost and how much you need depends on your length and density. You will have a firm number before anything is ordered.

Keratin smoothing

What it does, how long it lasts, and how to wash it.

  • What does a keratin treatment actually do?

It smooths the hair and calms frizz, so your hair dries better, holds shine, and takes far less work in the morning. It is the treatment clients most often come back for.

  • Will it make my hair dead straight?

Not unless you want it to. A keratin smooths rather than flattens, so waves and curl usually stay, just softer and far less frizzy. Tell us how much movement you want to keep and we will treat it accordingly.

  • How long does it last?

Around three to five months for most people, depending on your hair and how you wash it. It softens gradually rather than dropping off all at once.

  • How should I wash my hair afterwards?

Leave it alone for the first few days, then move to a sulphate-free shampoo. Sulphates strip a smoothing treatment out faster than anything else you can do. We will tell you exactly what to use before you leave.

  • Can I have keratin and colour in the same visit?

Usually colour first, then the smoothing, and often we will space the two out. We will tell you which order suits your hair and whether it is one appointment or two when you book.

Bridal and event

Trials, timings, and the bridal party.

  • Do I have to do a trial?

It is not compulsory, but we strongly recommend it. A trial is what turns the morning of your wedding into a repeat of something that already worked, rather than a first attempt.

  • How far ahead should I book my wedding?

Three to six months is comfortable for most dates. Spring and summer Saturdays go earlier, so call as soon as you have the date.

  • Can you do my bridal party too?

Yes. Tell us how many and roughly what they are after, and we will work out the running order so everybody is finished before the photographer arrives.

  • What should I bring to the trial?

Your veil and headpiece if you have them, and the details of the dress, especially the neckline. The neckline changes what suits, so it is worth telling us.

Prices and payment

Why prices start at a number, and when you will hear the real one.

  • Why are your prices shown as starting points?

Because length, thickness and what is already on your hair all change how much product and time a colour takes. A price that pretends otherwise is a price that changes at the counter, which is the one thing we will not do to you.

  • Will I know the price before you start?

Yes. You will hear the real number before anything is mixed, not at the end. If something changes mid-appointment, you hear about it then, not afterwards.

  • How can I pay?

Card and cash are both fine.

  • Do you take a deposit?

For longer appointments such as extensions and bridal work, yes. It holds the chair, and it comes off the final price.

  • Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes. Call us and we will sort one out, for an amount or for a particular service.

Visiting the salon

Where we are, parking, and changing an appointment.

  • Where exactly are you?

8/521 Toorak Rd, Toorak VIC 3142. It is a private studio rather than a floor of chairs, which is deliberate: you get the room, and you get the stylist's full attention for the whole appointment.

  • Is there parking?

There is metered street parking along Toorak Road, and free and metered parking in the side streets nearby. We will happily point you to the closest spot when you call.

  • Can I get there on public transport?

Yes. Trams run the length of Toorak Road and stop close to the door, and Hawksburn station is a walk away.

  • What if I need to change or cancel?

Call us as early as you can. Colour and extension appointments hold a long block of the day, so the more notice you give us the easier it is to fill, and the more likely we can find you another time that week.

  • Which areas do you look after?

Most of our clients come from Toorak itself and from South Yarra, Armadale, Prahran, Malvern and Hawthorn, but people travel to us from well beyond that.
